Drive, idler, tensioner and dedicated reels

Drive drums for conveyor belts

Drive drums, idler drums and tensioning drums are used, among other things, in conveyor belts to ensure that the conveyor belt functions and is correctly tensioned. They also facilitate the control of the conveyor belt. Without drive drums and other drums, the conveyor belt may not run properly.

We manufacture all types of drums in our plant - caro rubberised or smooth drums, cylindrical drums and barrel drums, as well as drums with a shaft that runs the entire length of the drum as well as drums that are only welded into the side flanges.

Series of drive, return and tension drums:

D - outer diameter of the drum (without rim),

B - length of the drum (min. 100 mm longer than the width of the belt with which it is to be fitted),

F - diameter of journal under bearings with adapter sleeve.

The table below summarises the dimensions for typical reels. We also manufacture drums to individual customer specifications - please contact us to discuss the details!

Here is a brief overview of these two types of drive drums:

1. drive drum

A drive drum is a drum located at the end of a conveyor belt, which is designed to hold and guide the belt in its return direction. It is driven by a motor to ensure that the belt moves in the correct direction. This drum is usually rubberised, which minimises friction and allows the belt to move smoothly. Its function is to maintain the correct tension of the belt and ensure that it is guided in the right direction and at the right speed.

2 Tensioning idler pulley

The tension pulley is located at the opposite end of the conveyor belt to the drive pulley. Tensioning drums are used to maintain the correct tension on the conveyor belt. They are usually equipped with tensioning rollers or systems that can be adjusted to adapt the belt tension to the requirements of the conveying process. By maintaining the correct tension, the tension drive drum prevents the belt from shifting, ensuring that it moves steadily and smoothly along the entire length of the conveyor belt.

Both types of drums are crucial to the proper operation of the conveyor belt. The drive idler and tensioner drums work together to keep the belt under the correct tension and ensure it moves smoothly along the conveyor route. In addition, the use of drums of the correct diameter and design is important to effectively transfer drive power to the belt and minimise frictional resistance. Without tension and drive idler drums, it is difficult to have proper belt control.
